Job Description:
Positioning Engineer - Marine Seismic
Participate in the overall operation of the Positioning Department including control of all positioning aspects of survey operations (planning and execution) and on board navigation processing. Be responsible for the quality and timely delivery of all positioning products for internal and external clients.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Be responsible for the Planning, safe and timely executing surveys such that the positioning products meet the necessary quality acceptance criteria. Monitor all positioning aspects of the operation and ensure that positioning and auxiliary services are performed to the required specifications. Be responsible for ensuring consistent logs are maintained at all times.
- Supervise the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment and systems within the department to comply with the manufacturers specifications and Company Best Practices, standards and schedules. Keep abreast of, and implement, new technology as necessary.
- Be in charge of cost effective maintenance and utilization of the equipment inventory for the department including an appropriate level of spare parts.
- Be responsible for ensuring the department is supporting the overall acquisition process and provide expert resources for cross discipline activities including small boat operation, equipment deployment/retrieval and Bridge Liaison.
Positioning engineer starts his/her career as field engineer trainee under fixed step training program. He/She develops thru this program and is promoted to Field Engineer/Senior Field Engineer/General Field Engineer, which takes 36 to 40 months to complete in general. After that, engineer will stay in field operation and at same time, start to find next job position that best suits company’s needs and his/her personal development needs. This can be any position in operations management, technical, sales, marketing & personnel. It is truly a rewarding career.
